Our History

A FAMILY STORY

The roots of Casa di Monte date back to the late 19th century, when Angelo Oreste Simoncini, born in Montespertoli in 1872, began his agricultural activity as a producer of straw for hats. With the help of many seasonal workers, the straw was woven into braids used to create the famous “Florentine hat,” known worldwide.

On July 5, 1912, Angelo Oreste purchased the buildings in the Casa di Monte area, in Montespertoli, along with about 10 hectares of land that still form the heart of the estate today. The complex is dominated by a watchtower dating back to the year 1000, later expanded between the 14th and 17th centuries and eventually converted into rural homes.

In 1924, due to the collapse of the straw market caused by Asian competition, the estate shifted its focus to viticulture and olive growing, planting new vineyards and olive groves and acquiring additional land.

In 1973, the estate passed to Giuseppe Simoncini and his son Marco, who began a direct farming management approach. At the end of the 1990s, the next generation—Matteo and Andrea, Marco’s sons—joined the company. In 2000, the Casa di Monte brand was officially established, identifying wines, extra virgin olive oil, and agritourism activities.

Today, the estate extends over approximately 100 hectares between the municipalities of Montespertoli and San Casciano in Val di Pesa.

The philosophy of the estate has always been focused on quality, with a constant attention to market evolution and a deep respect for tradition and territory.
